Concerns grow over Spain’s fitness update ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final against Argentina, as a couple of key players remain under close observation. During Thursday’s training session in New Jersey, teenage winger Lamine Yamal and defender Pedro Porro worked away from the rest of the group as Luis de la Fuente’s side kicked off final preparations for the tournament decider. Their absence from full-team drills initially sparked concerns among supporters, given the importance of both players to Spain’s campaign.

Why Had Lamine Yamal and Pedro Porro Individual Training?

The Spanish Football Federation, however, has stepped up to ease fears, ensuring that neither issue is currently considered serious. According to officials, the decision to place Lamine Yamal and Pedro Porro on an individual programme was purely precautionary and part of a broader effort to manage player workloads before the biggest match of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Both footballers are still expected to be available for selection when Spain take on Argentina on July 19 in New York.

Porro has reportedly been dealing with a minor physical problem in recent weeks. Spain boss Luis de la Fuente previously acknowledged that the full-back had been carrying a knock, and reports suggest he is managing a slight hamstring issue. While the discomfort has required extra attention from the medical staff, there is optimism that it will not stop him from featuring in the final.

Yamal’s situation appears even less worrying, with the young forward mainly recovering from the physical toll of Spain’s hard-fought semi-final victory over France, though he was spotted with a bandage around his leg.

Spain Form Injury Update Ahead Of FIFA World Cup 2026 Final vs Argentina

Apart from Lamine Yamal and Pedro Porro’s minor issues, Spain’s squad appears to be in good condition. The players looked relaxed and focused during the portion of training open to the media despite challenging weather conditions, including high temperatures and humidity.

With several days remaining before the final, the coaching staff’s primary objective is to ensure every player arrives at the match fully fit, refreshed and ready for the challenge posed by Argentina, who fought back brilliantly against England to earn the final spot. With Lionel Messi leading the charge, Spain should be ready for the toughest challenge of this competition.
