FIFA World Cup 2026: Spain carved itself into Football History after winning Argentina 1-0 on Sunday, July 19, in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Ferran Torres proved to be the hero for La Roja by netting the match-winning goal within the 14 minutes extra of the tie which eventually secured Spain another title in FIFA World Cup and at the same time, ended Argentina’s run as world champions. Although just the victory was impressive, it also allowed Spain to do something that no other country has ever achieved before. As a result, Spain now becomes the first country to ever simultaneously hold the FIFA World Cup title in Men’s and Women’s Football after its Women’s FIFA World Cup victory in 2023.

Spain Becomes First Nation To Hold Men’s And Women’s FIFA World Cup Titles Simultaneously

The women’s team from Spain beat England in the final and were crowned champions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament held in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. Three years later, the men’s team also made history by winning a world championship for the second time in North America.
The feat puts Spain in a league of its own. There have been many countries which have won both men’s and women’s World Titles – but none had ever won both simultaneously. With a brilliant generation of football players on both teams, Spain’s success is a defining moment for the sport.
This major win also proves how good Spanish football is at every level, even with the help of youth development teams. At the same time, they’re represented at a very senior level by great players and teams. The men’s side is spearheaded by the young Lamine Yamal with the women’s side being the reigning international football power.

FIFA World Cup 2026: Ferran Torres Delivers On The Biggest Stage

The final was an intense battle of tactics between football’s leading stars. Argentina, managed by Lionel Messi, were the under dogs after their victory in Qatar in 2022 and looking to add the World Cup title a second time in a row.
But, Spain took the lead through a goal in the dying minutes of extra time. Through a piece of brilliance, Ferran Torres found the back of the net when he pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area and outran Emiliano Martinez to give Spanish fans a moment to remember.
Spain’s defensive performance deserves equally high praise. They only gave away one goal in 9 games, which is a World record for a team that won the World Cup. Luis de la Fuente’s men did it.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina fall short in FIFA World Cup 2026 Final

Argentina were left in tears after their defeat, as it was the end of their defense of the title. Argentina’s team, the Albiceleste, was very hungry and had high expectations of winning the trophy. Lionel Messi’s last ever World Cup ended with a 1-0 defeat in the final.
But Spain’s disciplined defensive strategy frustrated the captain of the Argentine side for most of the match. Messi was visibly upset on leaving the field after the final whistle was blown.
Regardless of the bitterness of losing, Argentina had another amazing performance and a great journey through the tournament. They beat Egypt, Switzerland, and England, among others, on their way to the final.
