SRH vs CSK, IPL 2026: After a couple of back-to-back wins, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failed to cross the line this time around as the SunRisers Hyderabad reigned supreme on April 18, Saturday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Although the SunRisers Hyderabad didn’t deliver neither a perfect batting nor bowling performance, they stood up when it mattered the most and seized the key moments to close out the game by 10 runs. Super Kings Ruturaj Gaikwad’s struggles continued as he managed only 19 off the 13 balls he faced.
SRH vs CSK, IPL 2026: Here are the key moments from Match 27
5) Abhishek Sharma’s dismissal for 59
Although the SunRisers Hyderabad started in cracking fashion, the Chennai Super Kings hit back by dismissing Travis Head (23), Ishan Kishan (0) and Abhishek Sharma (59). The wicket of Abhishek, who belted a 15-ball half-century, was a blow to the SunRisers’ hopes as a well-set batter had to walk back, forcing the SunRisers for a few overs to consolidate instead of going hard.
4) Heinrich Klaasen’s wicket for 59
Heinrich Klaasen brought up his third half-century of the season with an array of strokes to propel the SunRisers Hyderabad into a promising position, thereby capitalising on the strong partnership of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. But Anshul Kamboj dismissed the former South African batter in the 18th over of the innings when the Orange Army were 177/5. The wicket severely put the brakes on their run-scoring as he managed only 17 more runs to their tally to finish on an underwhelming total.
3) Ayush Mhatre pulls up his hamstring
Ayush Mhatre, who came out to bat in the third over of the innings, surged the ante for the Super Kings in the powerplay, pushing them to 60/1 in 4 overs. But it was in the fifth over that the right-handed batter pulled up his hamstring after running a brace. The break for the treatment likely halted that momentum as Mhatre lost his wicket to Nitish Kumar Reddy in the delivery immediately after that.
2) Ruturaj Gaikwad fails to build on the promising start
Gaikwad is yet to go beyond 30 in IPL 2026 and Saturday night against the SunRisers Hyderabad proved to be another night. The Super Kings finished the first five overs at 66/2, looking well on track to chase down 195 but Eshan Malinga dismissed the CSK captain in the first delivery of the final over of the powerplay, denting the five-time champions further. The right-handed batter’s scores in IPL 2026 now read as 6, 28, 7, 15, 7 and 19, increasing the pressure on him. With CSK crashing to their fourth loss, the franchise will most need runs from Gaikwad to make a push for their playoffs spot.
1) Dewald Brevis’ dismissal for a duck
When Dewald Brevis came to bat in the 11th over of the innings, the required run-rate had barely touched 9 and the Super Kings were well in control of the game. But the young South African went for a wild hack but it was only a slice to Liam Livingstone at long-off. Brevis perished without scoring but even a cameo of 20 could have done wonders for the Super Kings as the difference eventually proved to only be 10 runs.
