India will lock horns with New Zealand in T20 World Cup 2026 in Ahmedabad on Friday. Team India marched into the summit clash on the back of a stunning win against England in the semi-final. Sanju Samson played an incredible knock of 89 off 42 to help the side post 253/7 in 20 overs.
Later, Jacob Bethell tried to keep England in the hunt but he ran out of partners and England could only manage 246/7 eventually. While India look to defend their T20 title, New Zealand will be looking to clinch their maiden T20 cup. Team India also has a chance of winning their third title on the trot in three years.
India met South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados. Batting first, India rode on Virat Kohli's 76 off 59 to put up 176/7 in 20 overs. Apart from him, Axar Patel also made a valuable contribution of 47 off 31 while Shivam Dube chipped in with 27 off 16.
Another day to thank Suryakumar Yadav for this unbelievable catch otherwise Miller would've finished the chase that day. #T20WorldCup #SuryakumarYadav pic.twitter.com/RwWUWOUjjD

Later, bowlers did their job and picked up wickets regularly. Henrich Klaasen struck a brilliant 52 off 27 while David Miller scored 21 off 17. South Africa needed 16 runs off 6 when Miller hit one in the air towards long off. Suryakumar Yadav held on to a brilliant catch to dismiss him. India eventually won by 7 runs.
India were up against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai. The Indian team had lost two ICC tournament finals before this against New Zealand. They first lost the Knockout Trophy final in 2000 and then suffered defeat in 2021 WTC Final.
After 11 years a multi year break out in June 2024 with the T20 WC win and within 8 months another ICC title for us, a third champions trophy win.

But the script changed in this one. New Zealand put up 251/7 in 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell top-scored with 63 off 101. Later, it was Rohit Shamra's 76 off 83 that anchored India to a brilliant win. Shreyas Iyer hit 48 off 62 while KL Rahul was unbeaten at 34 off 33.
Now, it will be interesting to see whether India make it all square or New Zealand get to 3-1.
