The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly supported Bangladesh’s decision not to play its T20 World Cup matches in India due to security concerns. This was communicated to the International Cricket Council (ICC). ICC’s top officials are scheduled to meet on Wednesday, to take a final decision on Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup, including whether the team will travel to India for the tournament, which begins on February 7.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play all four of their group-stage matches in India. Three matches are set to be held in Kolkata, while the fourth is planned for Mumbai. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), with the backing of its government, has firmly refused to send the team to India and has requested that its matches be moved to co-host Sri Lanka.
A Bangladesh government adviser has stated that the country will not give in to ICC pressure regarding its participation in the T20 World Cup.

“All preparations for the national team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 have been put on hold, with the team management being briefed about the plans,” top PCB sources told www.telecomasia.net.

On Saturday, during a discussion between Dhaka and Islamabad, Pakistan expressed its full support for Bangladesh’s decision not to travel to India due to security concerns. Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB chairman, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister and a Senator, played a key role in these talks.

Ahead of the ICC meeting, the PCB reportedly wrote to the ICC expressing support for Bangladesh’s stance, citing political instability in the region. According to ESPNCricinfo, the letter was copied to all ICC Board members.

The PCB has not made any official public statement on the matter. However, sources within the board have said that the Bangladesh government approached Pakistan for support at the ICC level.

Pakistan, meanwhile, will play all of its matches in Sri Lanka under a hybrid model agreement with the BCCI and the ICC that will remain in place until 2027.
