With Team India suffering back-to-back T20I series losses, months after being crowned as the World Champions, the Men in Blue could be in for a major shake-up in their coaching staff. According to a report of the Times of India, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and bowling coach Morne Morkel are contemplating their futures moving forward.

Are Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel quitting their India coaching roles?

Notably, both Ten Doeschate and Morkel’s contracts exprie following the ODI series against England that begins on July 14 at Edgbaston, Birmingham and lasting until the 19th. A BCCI source told the TOI as below:

“Doeschate isn’t very sure of continuing with this job. He has conveyed his problems with travelling with the team throughout the year. Morkel is still weighing his options. The board is discussing the matter with the two coaches and will try to see if things can be sorted out.”

The Times of India also reported that Ten Doeschate, who held coaching roles in the IPL before, is exploring the same avenue with a franchise. However, Morkel hasn’t decided anything firmly yet. It was Gautam Gambhir, who had handpicked them to be part of their coaching staff when he was made the head coach in 2024 after Rahul Dravid departed. Last year, Abhishek Nayar was replaced by Sitanshu Kotak as the batting coach. While VVS Laxman will don the role of the coach and take his Centre of Excellence (COE) staff for the T20I series in Zimbabwe, India will need a full-strength staff for an important Test tour of Sri Lanka in August. Additionally, T Dilip also remains under the scanner due to the deteriorating fielding standards of the Indian team.

Can Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma inspire Team India in ODI series against England?

Meanwhile, the tourists will be boosted by the returns of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah for the ODI series against England. Their experience and pedigree should lift the Men in Blue, who are yet to win a match since their tour of Ireland and England began.

Team India will have some happy memories of playing in England, given they had won the last ODI series on the soil. The series will also be crucial from the perspective of the preparations for the 2027 World Cup and both sides will be looking to put their best foot forward.
