Fabrizio Romano has dismissed suggestions that Tottenham’s move for Gakpo has collapsed. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the football journalist said Spurs remain in contact as they continue negotiations with Liverpool FC.
“For Cody Gakpo, Tottenham remain in conversations,” Romano said. He acknowledged reports claiming that the deal was off, but stressed that anything could happen in the coming weeks.
“My understanding is that the negotiation for Cody Gakpo to Tottenham is still ongoing,” Romano added.
Romano also revealed that Gakpo is open to joining Tottenham Hotspur FC and personal terms are not currently seen as an obstacle. That leaves the Premier League clubs to resolve the biggest remaining issue, which is the financial package.
“The deal remains on. The deal remains underway, and Cody Gakpo to Tottenham Hotspur is still absolutely on,” Romano stated further.
The transfer situation has been complicated by Liverpool’s own plans. Romano claimed the Reds could move for two wingers if Gakpo leaves, with Bradley Barcola identified as their priority target.
