Australian and Multan Sultans batter Steve Smith was seen furious as he walked back to the dressing room after being dismissed in the Eliminator clash of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 against Hyderabad Kingsmen at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. A video of the same went viral on social media as Smith thrashed the bat on the floor, encapsulating Multan Sultans’ collapse on the all-important night.

HYK vs MUL, PSL 2026, Eliminator: How did Multan Sultans’ batting unit fare in Lahore?

The Multan Sultans qualified for the playoffs fairly comfortably. But back-to-back defeats to the Kingsmen and Islamabad United, headlined by failing to defend 190+ targets would have dented their confidence. While their batting unit has clicked into gear, it’s the Sultans’ bowling that will give the management plenty of headache. With the Kingsmen high on confidence, Multan Sultans will need to bring their A-game. Nevertheless, they hardly put their best foot forward. Despite the likes of Smith, Sahibzada Farhan, Josh Philippe and Ashton Turner in their ranks, only one of the Sultans’ batters made it to double figures.

Smith’s dismissal for 13 came in the third over of the innings as the right-hander mistimed a shot to mid-off and Maaz Sadaqat took a diving catch. Earlier in the over, Sadaqat had dropped Smith at deep third man and he dropped the ball in frustration after holding on to the catch for the second time.

HYK vs MUL, PSL 2026, Eliminator: Can Hyderabad Kingsmen chase down 160?

Shan Massood stood tall with a 46-ball 69 has taken the Multan Sultans to a competitive 159/9 in 20 overs. The left-hander smacked four fours and as many sixes to give their bowlers something to bowl to.

With chasing sides finding success, the Kingsmen will back themselves to win.
