Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The teenage batting sensation had no hesitation against pacer Mohammed Siraj, taking the aerial route and finding the boundary with a series of confident shots.

Sooryavanshi eventually departed for a quickfire 44 off 37 balls, but not before entertaining the crowd with five fours and one six. His aggressive approach was on display in his fight with Siraj, against whom he scored 22 from 12 balls, including three fours and one six.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Takes On Mohammed Siraj

The contest between Sooryavanshi and Siraj quickly became one of the most entertaining passages of the innings. The young left-hander initially respected the Indian pacer’s deliveries before beginning to take calculated risks once he found his rhythm.

Siraj bowled a full delivery outside off in the second over, but Sooryavanshi opened the face of the bat and squeezed it through backward point for a boundary. The youngster then rotated the strike before facing Siraj again later in the innings.

The biggest moment came in the sixth over. Siraj pitched the ball up in the slot and Sooryavanshi immediately decided to attack. He wound up and swung through the line, sending the ball over the ropes for a towering six.

Just two balls later, Sooryavanshi produced another delightful stroke against Siraj. With the pacer bowling full around off, the teenager used the angle, opened the face and steered the ball through point for another boundary.

The youngster also attempted to take charge by coming down the track against Siraj, showing the attacking intent that has become a defining feature of his batting.

Sooryavanshi’s Quickfire 44 Adds Spark to East Zone’s Innings

Sooryavanshi’s assault on Siraj formed part of an entertaining 44-run knock off 37 deliveries. He struck five fours and one six, scoring at a strike rate of 118.92 before his innings was eventually brought to an end by Chama V Milind.

The dismissal came in the 15th over when Milind bowled a short-of-length delivery. Sooryavanshi went for the release shot, but the ball hit the splice of his bat and flew towards mid-wicket. Substitute fielder Tanay Thyagarajan ran to his right from deep square leg and completed a good catch.

His dismissal ended the partnership and brought an end to another eye-catching contribution from the 15-year-old.

Teenage Sensation Continues to Make an Impact in Duleep Trophy

Sooryavanshi’s 44 against South Zone added to an already impressive Duleep Trophy campaign. Before the final, the youngster had already produced a memorable 92-run knock off 81 balls, showcasing his ability to combine power with clean strokeplay.

In the Duleep Trophy 2026, Sooryavanshi has now accumulated 140 runs in three innings, with a highest score of 92, an average of 46.67 and a strike rate of 107.69. He has also hit 12 fours and nine sixes in the tournament.

At just 15 years of age, the East Zone batter continues to attract enormous attention with his aggressive approach and confidence against experienced bowlers.
