Erling Haaland and Pablo Rosario Clash in Heated Champions League Incident as Tensions Boil Over
Erling Haaland found himself at the centre of a heated confrontation during Manchester City’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Porto on Tuesday. Just moments after scoring his second goal in the 91st minute, the Norwegian became involved in a physical exchange with Porto midfielder Pablo Rosario. Rosario appeared to bring Haaland down with a late challenge, prompting an angry reaction from the City striker.

The situation quickly escalated as the two players grappled on the pitch, with Haaland appearing to end up on top of Rosario while both pulled at each other’s shirts. Referee Szymon Marciniak immediately stepped in to separate them, while players from both sides rushed over as tensions threatened to boil over. Both Haaland and Rosario were shown yellow cards before the final whistle.
It was not the first flashpoint of an increasingly feisty contest at the Estádio do Dragão. Earlier in the match, Porto midfielder Gabri Veiga was left bleeding after his head made contact with Marc Guéhi’s trailing arm during an aerial challenge. Guéhi escaped punishment following a VAR review, but the decision frustrated the hosts and was followed by another confrontation involving players and officials as they headed toward the tunnel at half-time.
Haaland’s Record-Breaking Night Helps Manchester City Secure Fourth Straight Win
Away from the late drama, Haaland enjoyed another standout European night. He opened the scoring after being picked out by a well-placed cross from Enzo Fernández before adding his second in stoppage time to complete the win. Fernández hailed his new teammate after the match, describing Haaland as a “beast” and expressing his desire to provide him with even more assists.
The brace also moved Haaland further up Manchester City’s all-time scoring charts. The 26-year-old has now scored 167 goals for the club and sits third behind Eric Brook and Sergio Agüero. His Champions League record is equally remarkable, with 59 goals in 59 appearances, putting him seventh on the competition’s all-time scoring list and level with Agüero for the most Champions League goals scored for City.
The victory marked City’s fourth consecutive win in all competitions under new manager Enzo Maresca. The club will now turn its attention to domestic action against Manchester United before returning to Champions League duty, when City host reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain in their next continental fixture.
