KL Rahul Furious After Keshara Nuwantha’s Collision With Yashasvi Jaiswal
India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed in bizarre circumstances during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Saturday, August 15. The incident occurred in the 11th over when KL Rahul pushed a flighted delivery from spinner Keshara Nuwantha towards mid-on and called for a quick single. Nuwantha attempted to stop the ball but failed to hold on, leaving it rolling away as the Indian batters set off.
The confusion intensified as both Jaiswal and Rahul ended up at the same end of the pitch, allowing Sri Lanka to complete the run-out. Jaiswal had looked comfortable before the mix-up, scoring 32 off 37 balls and sharing a 47-run opening stand with Rahul. It marked only the third Test run-out of his career, following dismissals against Australia at the MCG in 2024 and West Indies in Delhi last year.
After winning the toss, India captain Shubman Gill chose to bat first in Galle. By lunch, India had reached 101/1, with Rahul unbeaten alongside Devdutt Padikkal, who joined him after Jaiswal’s dismissal. The pair added 54 runs for the second wicket to put India back in control after the bizarre setback.
