The 2026 Formula 1 season resumed last weekend after a five-week break with the Miami Grand Prix, and it delivered more than just Florida sunshine. The weekend just gave a message that 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli could be a serious contender for the world title among the pack of 22 drivers, including seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, four-time champion Max Verstappen, and defending champion Lando Norris. On Sunday, May 3, Antonelli secured his third consecutive win for Mercedes, extending his lead in the Drivers’ Championship to 100 points, 20 ahead of second-place George Russell.

Formula 1 2026 Season Till Miami Grand Prix

Five races in, and the 2026 season has been an actual tactical earthquake. The transition to 100% sustainable fuels and the new engine regulations initially suggested a period of instability, but Mercedes have clearly done their homework, emerging as the team to beat with an incredibly reliable and fast power unit.

In three words, it has been a ‘Kimi Antonelli Show’. The teenager’s back-to-back-to-back wins in Australia, Japan, and Miami have made him enter several elite clubs. The 19-year-old Mercedes talent just matched Michael Schumacher by becoming only the third driver in Formula 1 history to secure the first three pole positions of their career in consecutive races.
