Indian and Delhi Capitals cricketer Abhishek Porel has landed in trouble as a woman has accused him of having a sexual relationship with a promise of marriage. According to a report of Anandabazar Patrika, the woman, who happens to be a medical student in Karnataka, has filed a complaint him at the Mogra Police Station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district. Nevertheless, Porel has categorically denied the charges.

Who is Abhishek Porel?

Born on October 17, 2002, Porel, the keeper-batter plays for Bengal in domestic cricket and the Delhi Capitals in Indian Premier League (IPL). Amongst the most promising batters in domestic cricket, the youngster has featured in 32 first-class fixtures, 23 List A matches and 61 T20 games. He has been with the Capitals since 2023 and has delivered some promising performances. In 35 IPL games, the 23-year-old has mustered 769 runs at 25.63 alongside a strike rate of 145.36. with four fifties. Despite promising numbers, Porel got to play only four games in IPL 2026 as the Capitals missed out on a playoffs spot again.

Why has the woman field complaint against Abhishek Porel?

As reported by News18, the complaint mentions that she was in a relationship with Porel for three years and planned to marry. However, there was allegedly a problem between them around a year and a half year ago. The report also stated that the matter had reached the police station previously but no formal complaint was lodged. On Tuesday, the woman reportedly visited the Mogra Police Station with her mother and filed the complaint against the keeper-batter. The police is currently investigating the case.

Furthermore, Hooghly (Rural) Superintendent of Police Kunar Bhushan Singh visited the police station after knowing details about the case. He also discussed about the case with officer-in-charge Soumen Biswas and DSP (Crime) Abhijit Singh Mohapatra regarding further course of action.

Meanwhile, Porel, who is currently in Bengaluru, sharply denied the allegations and said he has not been contacted by the police. The youngster said, as quoted by News18:

“I am playing well now, so various things are coming up.”

Porel had reportedly further added that he was busy in family matters once Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2026 season concluded. It remains to be seen which way the case goes.
