The Phoenix Suns have secured Dillon Brooks for the long term, with the veteran forward agreeing to a three-year, $73 million contract extension. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the new deal will keep Brooks in Phoenix through the end of the 2029-30 NBA season, reinforcing the franchise’s commitment to one of its key veterans.

Brooks earned the extension after delivering what many consider the strongest campaign of his nine-year NBA career, while also playing a major role in helping reshape the team’s identity. Alongside retaining Brooks, the Suns have continued to strengthen their roster by signing Collin Gillespie, Mark Williams, and Jordan Goodwin to multiyear deals, while also adding Miles Bridges and Luke Kennard as part of an active offseason.

Phoenix Suns Secure Dillon Brooks With New Three-Year, $73 Million Deal

Dillon Brooks has secured his long-term future with the Phoenix Suns after agreeing to a fully guaranteed three-year, $73 million contract extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2029-30 season. The veteran forward earned the new deal after producing the best campaign of his nine-year NBA career, averaging a career-high 20.2 points along with 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Suns executives Josh Bartelstein and Brian Gregory worked closely with Brooks’ agent, Mike George of Klutch Sports, to finalize the extension and prevent him from reaching free agency in 2027.

Since arriving in Phoenix as part of the Kevin Durant trade, Brooks has become a cornerstone of the team’s defensive identity under head coach Jordan Ott. Despite missing 18 games with a fractured left hand, he returned in time for the playoffs and led the Suns in scoring with 26 points per game while shooting 43.8% from beyond the arc during their first-round series. Brooks’ defensive presence also played a major role in Phoenix improving from 27th to ninth in defensive rating, while owner Mat Ishbia had previously made it clear the franchise had no intention of moving him, calling Brooks a vital piece of the team’s future.

Who Is Dillon Brooks? Everything to Know About the Phoenix Suns Forward

Dillon Brooks is a Canadian professional basketball player who plays as a forward for the Phoenix Suns and has earned a reputation as one of the NBA’s toughest perimeter defenders. Nicknamed “Dillon the Villain,” Brooks is known for his relentless defensive style, physical play, and willingness to challenge the league’s biggest stars. Born on January 22, 1996, in Mississauga, Ontario, he starred at the University of Oregon, where he was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year before being selected in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft. Brooks has also been a regular member of the Canadian men’s national basketball team.

Brooks began his NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he spent six seasons establishing himself as a defensive specialist and earned NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors in 2023. He later joined the Houston Rockets before arriving in Phoenix as part of the blockbuster trade involving Kevin Durant. During the 2025-26 season, Brooks enjoyed the best offensive campaign of his career, averaging a personal-best 20.2 points per game despite missing time with a fractured left hand. He elevated his game even further in the playoffs, leading the Suns in scoring during their first-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

What sets Brooks apart is his fearless mentality on both ends of the floor. He embraces the role of an agitator, using constant defensive pressure and trash talk to unsettle opponents while taking on the toughest assignments every night. Although his aggressive approach has often resulted in technical fouls and made him one of the NBA’s most polarizing players, his intensity, competitiveness, and work ethic have earned the respect of teammates and made him a fan favorite in Phoenix.
