India national cricket team: Tensions are brewing in the Indian coaching setup as a prominent member of staff wants to leave. Ryan ten Doeschate, who joined the setup with Gautam Gambhir, has made his intentions about leaving the setup clear. The former Dutch cricketer believes promises made to him have not been kept. It is believed that ten Doeschate was promised the role of being given the fielding coach position following T Dillip’s contract ending with the team.
However, as it turns out, Dillip has managed to keep his position within the coaching setup. Following this move, Doeschate has contacted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), letting them know about his decision.

Why is Ryan ten Doeschate leaving Gautam Gambhir and Co.?

According to reports, Ryan ten Doeschate was told that he would be taking over the fielding coach duties following the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy last year, which India went on to win. Dillip, whose role in the team as the fielding coach had been under some criticism, received Gambhir’s backing only after being requested by a senior player in the side.
Had it not been for the extension, Dillip would have left the Indian team after the Champions Trophy. Once again in 2026, there have been reports that the 45-year-old has once again been granted yet another extension. It is believed that the latest extension would have been the final straw for Ten Doeschate to reconsider his future with Gautam Gambhir and co.

What is Ryan ten Doeschate’s role in the Indian team?

Ryan ten Doeschate currently does not have a defined role with the Indian team. The former Dutch player is listed as an assistant coach for the team. Meanwhile, in a setup where there is Gautam Gambhir as the head coach and Sitanshu Kotak as the batting coach, one would wonder what more could Ryan provide. In the fielding department, there is Dilip, who has the responsibility of getting the best out of the fielders.
Having picked 68 wickets off 57 international games, ten Doeschate might not be the coach that bowlers would be approaching with Morne Morkel and now Sairaj Bahutule in the setup. With these coaches already in the setup, it looks more and more likely that there is little to nothing that ten Doeschate is able to provide.

What’s next for Ryan ten Doeschate after leaving the Indian team?

Reports indicate that Ryan ten Doeschate is already in contact with an IPL team to join them as one of the coaches in the next edition. While the name of the franchise has not been disclosed, the most intelligent guess would be that he could join Kolkata Knight Riders. Not only did the Dutch cricketer represent the three-time champions in the IPL, but he was also part of the coaching setup in recent years. With ex-coaching teammate Abhishek Nayar now at the helm of things at KKR, ten Doeschate’s appointment might not be difficult.
