The 30-year-old, who currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, was charged on July 31 in connection with an incident that reportedly took place on Wardour Street on December 6, 2025.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Toney is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24. The charge relates to the alleged nightclub incident in central London, with legal proceedings now set to move forward in court.

Responding to the charge, a spokesperson for Toney said: “Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court.” Before joining Al-Ahli in 2024, Toney played for Northampton Town, Newcastle United, Peterborough United and Brentford. He also represented England at the FIFA World Cup, making two appearances during the tournament.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charge in an official statement, saying: “A man has been charged with assault following a Met investigation. “Ivan Toney, 30 (16.03.1996), of Northampton, was charged on Thursday, 31 July with assault causing actual bodily harm. “He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 24 September. “The charge relates to an assault, which reportedly took place on 6 December 2025 at a nightclub on Wardour Street, W1.” Reports have also linked the investigation to an alleged headbutt outside the venue.
