In their statement, the North London club announced that the 25-year-old defender has returned to the club following the end of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Having suffered a back injury during the tournament, Saliba is expected to be out for “an extended period”. However, good news for Arsenal fans is that the defender will start his rehabilitation immediately.

The initial assessment from Arsenal on the return of Saliba has ruled out the need for back surgery. However, the centre-back will be commencing a managed recovery program.

When will William Saliba return for Arsenal?

Despite putting out a statement addressing William Saliba’s back injury, which he suffered while playing for France during the World Cup, Arsenal could not put a pin on the return date for their star defender. Meanwhile, it is expected that the star defender will be missing the opening weeks of the Premier League.

The 2026/27 season of the top-flight football league in England will be kicking off in less than a month. In their opening game, Arsenal will be playing newly promoted Coventry City on the 21st August at home. They will face tough challenges in the form of Aston Villa and Chelsea on Matchdays 2 and 3.

In the Champions League, where Arsenal finished as runner-up in the previous season, Saliba will once again be a huge miss in the opening games. The first matchday is expected to be played within the first 10 days of September as Mikel Arteta’s side once again fights for their first European trophy.

Who will replace William Saliba at Arsenal?

It is being reported that the North London club is on the lookout for Ezri Konsa and John Stones to replace their French defender. While Konsa is still contracted with Aston Villa, Stones is a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Manchester City at the end of the summer.
