Wimbledon 2026: Wimbledon officials have slapped Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic with a hefty fine of £5,600 for his outburst during his Round of 16 match against Roman Safiullin on Sunday. The development emerged during his Quarter-final clash against Felix Auger-Aliassame on Tuesday evening as the All England Club confirmed that the 24-time Grand Slam champion faces punishment for his ‘audible obscenity’.

While the precise moment or the reason about why the outburst triggered from Djokovic remains unclear, the 39-year-old was found guilty of an on-court code violation from German umpire Timo Janzen as the veteran allegedly yelled some expletives after finding himself 0-2 down in the third set of the match. The seven-time Wimbledon champion was heard shouting abusive words in English and Serbian during a heated altercation, with the Centre Court spectators also jeering at the veteran after striking a ball in frustration later in that match.
Djokovic admitted to the offence and reacted by saying the below, as quoted by GBNews.com:
“Sometimes it helps to kind of just filter things that are building inside. Not something I’m proud of when I get warning or something like that, I have a meltdown.”

With the Serbian Tennis player seemingly nearing the end of his career, he would be keen to achieve his 25th Grand Slam title – a feat that has been eluding him for a long time. The veteran seemed to be the favourite to clinch the French Open title after Carlos Alcaraz was forced out of the event due to an injury, followed by Jannik Sinner suffering a shocking defeat to Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerúndolo.
Nevertheless, Djokovic also suffered a third-round exit after going down to 19-year-old Brazilian João Fonseca, with Alexander Zverev eventually winning the title. The 39-year-old’s last Grand Slam title was during the US Open 2023 when he beat Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in straight sets to win the title. While Djokovic won the Olympic gold in Paris 2024, the 25th Grand Slam title has been eluding him for a long time. He reached the final of the Australian Open earlier this year but Alcaraz beat him convincingly to lift the trophy.
