Trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter, Indiana responded with an 11-0 run, sparked by three-pointers from Sophie Cunningham, Kelsey Mitchell and Tyasha Harris, to force a dramatic finish. The game featured five lead changes in the final 45 seconds before Mitchell drove into the lane and converted a finger-roll layup with 10.1 seconds left to give the Fever the lead for good.
Mitchell finished with a game-high 29 points and eight assists, leading Indiana’s offense when it mattered most. Aliyah Boston returned to the lineup after missing the previous game and contributed 21 points and nine rebounds, while Tyasha Harris scored 15 points, including nine during the closing four minutes. Indiana also received nine points from Cunningham off the bench as the team secured the victory despite the absence of Caitlin Clark.
How the Phoenix Mercury Fell Short Against the Indiana Fever
The Phoenix Mercury battled until the closing moments but were unable to hold onto their fourth-quarter advantage. DeWanna Bonner’s three-pointer ended Indiana’s momentum and briefly restored the Mercury’s lead, setting up a tense back-and-forth finish. Kahleah Copper scored 22 points to share the team lead with Alyssa Thomas, who also made a key basket late in the game to briefly put Phoenix back in front.
However, the Mercury could not produce the final response after Mitchell’s decisive layup. Thomas was denied a clean look on Phoenix’s last possession, and a loose-ball foul by Copper on former Mercury player Sophie Cunningham effectively ended the contest. Monique Akoa Makani added 14 points off the bench, but Phoenix dropped to 8-15 after falling just short in a tightly contested finish.
