England’s clinical eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the third Test at Edgbaston has officially sealed an emphatic 3 to 0 series whitewash and reshuffled the World Test Championship standings. Joe Root’s unbeaten half-century safely steered the hosts through an early wobble created by Mohammad Abbas, earning England twelve crucial points. While the series sweep lifts England to a 42.16 points percentage in sixth position, Pakistan has slumped to rock bottom in ninth place. Here is the fully updated ICC World Test Championship points table and what it means for India’s qualification hopes.

England Surge In Standings Despite Penalty Woes

England’s victory on the fourth afternoon in Birmingham marks a comprehensive turnaround in their home summer. Chasing a four-innings target of 130 after conceding an early scare at 2 for 2, senior statesman Joe Root compiled an unbeaten 59 alongside Jordan Cox (46 not out) to see the hosts comfortably over the line.

The maximum twelve points gained from the Edgbaston triumph pushed England’s land tally to 86 points from 17 matches in the 2025 to 2027 cycle. Their points percentage has climbed from 38.54 percent to 42.16 percent, consolidating their hold on the sixth spot.

However, heavy slow-over-rate penalties continue to cast a long shadow over their qualification prospects. Having forfeited a staggering 14 points across previous series against India and New Zealand, England remain trapped outside the top four despite winning eight Test matches in the current championship cycle.

Pakistan Slump To Ninth Spot After Another Whitewash

For Pakistan, the 3 to 0 series drubbing in England represents one of their lowest ebbs in recent Test history. Despite a spirited second innings fightback led21-year-old old debutant Razaullah Khan Mashwani, who smashed 81 off 63 deliveries during a re121-run1 run stand with Mohammad Abbas, Masood’s side were completely undone by their disastrous first innings collapse of 133 all out.

The defeat leaves Pakistan languishing in ninth position at the foot of the nine-team table. With eight defeats in ten matches and eight penalty points incurred for sluggish over rates, Pakistan’s points percentage has dropped to 13.33 percent. Having already dropped home points against Bangladesh earlier in the cycle, Pakistan’s chances of reaching the 2027 final at The Oval are now hanging by a thread.

Where Does Team India Stand In The Race For The Oval?

While England and Pakistan battled in Birmingham, Team In remains firmly stationed in fifth place with a points percentage of 51.52%. Rohit Shahashave recorded five wins, four losses, and two draws from their eleven contested fixtures.

Defending champions Australia continue to set the benchmark at the summit with an intimidating 80.00 points percentage, followed closely by South Africa in second position with 75.00 percent. New Zealand (72.22 percent) and Bangladesh (55.56 percent) occupy third and fourth, respectively.

With upcoming Test assignments on home soil, India maintains a realistic path toward climbing into the top two qualifying spots. However, with Australia and South Africa maintaining commanding win percentages, India will need an almost flawless run of results in their remaining bilateral series to secure a ticket to their fourth consecutive World Test Championship final.
