It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s S̶u̶p̶e̶r̶m̶a̶n̶ Brian Bennett, who stole all the limelight with his spectacular effort during the 8th match of Group B at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 between Zimbabwe and Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on February 9th. All thanks to his athletic brilliance, the end of Oman’s innings became one of the game’s best highlights.
Brian Bennett stole the show with a stunning catch
After being put in to bat first in Colombo, Oman had a rough outing with the bat. Their innings never really got going, though they did try to add a few late runs toward the end. Nadeem Khan went after a clever slower ball from Brad Evans and aimed for a big shot on the leg side.
But the timing wasn’t quite right. The ball went high and started drifting toward deep mid-wicket, where there was no fielder in place at first. Sensing an opportunity to save the boundary, Brian Bennett sprinted across from deep mid-wicket, covered a lot of ground, and then dived full stretch. The result was a breathtaking catch that instantly became the highlight of the match.
That moment brought Oman’s innings to a dramatic close. Nadeem had to head back to the dressing room after scoring 20 off 18 balls, which included a six and a boundary. Oman was eventually bowled out for just 103 runs by Zimbabwe on Tuesday in Colombo.

Oman register lowest T20 World Cup total ever
Oman’s total of 103 also created an unwanted record. It now stands as the lowest total ever scored against Zimbabwe in a T20 World Cup game. Zimbabwe’s bowlers were in control throughout the innings and never allowed the Oman batters to settle. Short balls worked especially well, with Zimbabwe picking up seven wickets using that tactic and keeping the pressure on from start to finish.
Nadeem ended up as Oman’s top scorer, which says a lot about how tough the day was for the batting unit. Zimbabwe’s bowling effort also led to a new record for the most wickets taken through short deliveries in a single T20 World Cup innings. The pacers combined to take nine wickets, marking the first time Zimbabwe’s fast bowlers have achieved this in the tournament.
Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, and Brad Evans led the charge with three wickets each. During the innings break, Muzarabani shared how pleased he was with the conditions and his performance in Colombo. He felt the pitch suited his style and allowed him to hit the right lengths consistently. He said:
“I was really happy today. I feel like the wicket really helped me with my length. I was really happy with that. The wicket was really helping us. So, we just have to keep it easy and just stick to our length, and I’m happy with that. I was really excited, actually, to see how the wicket played. Usually, the wicket is not really bouncy like that.”
