Apple’s much-awaited September 9, 2026 event is taking place today, marking a major leadership moment for the technology giant. The “Surprise and shine” event will be Apple’s first major product keynote under its new CEO, John Ternus.
Ternus took over as Apple’s CEO from Tim Cook on September 1, 2026. As a result, Ternus is expected to lead today’s keynote and introduce Apple’s latest products to audiences worldwide.
Who Will Inaugurate Apple Event Today?
John Ternus, Apple’s new CEO, will lead the September 9 Apple event.
Unlike previous major Apple launches that were headlined by Tim Cook, this year’s event marks the first major product presentation for Ternus since becoming CEO.
Ternus previously served as Apple’s hardware chief and played a key role in the development and launch of several Apple products. His appearance at today’s event is therefore being closely watched as the company begins a new leadership era.
Is John Ternus the Chief Guest at Apple Event?
Apple has not officially announced a separate chief guest for the September 9 event.
Therefore, it would be more accurate to describe John Ternus as the keynote host and Apple’s main presenting executive, rather than a traditional chief guest.
Apple’s product launches generally focus on company executives presenting new hardware and software instead of featuring an externally invited chief guest.
Who Is John Ternus?
John Ternus is a longtime Apple executive who previously led the company’s hardware engineering organisation.
He joined Apple in 2001 and has held several senior engineering positions during his career. Before becoming CEO, Ternus served as Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.
His career at Apple has included involvement in the development of major products across the company’s hardware portfolio.

What Happened to Tim Cook?
Tim Cook stepped down as Apple’s CEO after leading the company for more than 15 years.
Cook has moved into the role of executive chairman, while Ternus has taken over responsibility for Apple’s day-to-day leadership.

Will Tim Cook Attend the Apple Event?
Apple has not announced that Tim Cook will serve as a presenter or chief guest at the September 9 keynote.
The spotlight is expected to remain on Ternus as he begins his tenure as Apple’s chief executive and presents the company’s latest products.
