iPhone 18 Pro Battery Leak: For years, Apple has marketed the iPhone as a largely uniform product across the globe. But if the latest leaks are accurate, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could offer a slightly different experience depending on where you buy it. And while that may not sound like a big deal, the difference could come down to battery capacity, meaning, will the next iPhone 18 Pro be a universal product, or could there be value variations around the world?
Why could iPhone 18 Pro have different batteries in different regions?
Digital Chat Station, a popular Weibo tipster, says Apple is running two battery options for the iPhone 18 Pro. The leak implies the US version could be equipped with a larger 4,288mAh battery, while the China version is likely to be fitted with a smaller 4,056mAh battery instead.
According to reports, the difference is down to Apple’s SIM card approach. Since the iPhone 14 series, Apple has been selling eSIM-only iPhones in the U.S., which means there’s no need for a physical SIM tray anymore. So, it looks like that extra space inside could be used for a slightly bigger battery.
Will India Get the Smaller Battery Version?
Battery specs for the iPhone 18 Pro have not been released by Apple yet. iPhones still ship to India with a physical SIM card slot. If Apple takes a similar route, the Indian version could get the 4,056mAh end of the variants, similar to what is expected for the Chinese version.
There is no official word on that yet, and Apple could make changes in the meantime.
But how much bigger is the upgrade compared to the iPhone 17 Pro?
It looks like the increase is not huge. The new iPhone 17 Pro reportedly has a 3,988mAh battery in China and a 4,252mAh battery in the US.
If the new leak is true, the iPhone 18 Pro is getting only a tiny bump in battery. However, battery size alone doesn’t tell you the whole story.
What impact would a new A20 Pro chip have on battery life?
Rumours say that the new iPhone 18 Pro range may be using Apple’s new A20 Pro chipset, which is expected to be engineered on a cutting-edge 2nm process.
A more efficient chip can use less power, which can translate into noticeably better battery life – even if the capacity itself doesn’t increase that much.
Expected Price of iPhone 18 Pro
While Apple has not revealed pricing, Digital Chat Station recently hinted that the iPhone 18 Pro could see a significant price increase. However, analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu believe Apple may keep pricing unchanged to maintain market share.
For now, the expected starting price is likely to remain close to the current Pro models, though a final decision may depend on production costs and market conditions.
Beyond battery upgrades, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to bring camera improvements, the A20 Pro chip, enhanced efficiency, and software optimisations. Meanwhile, rumours surrounding Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra continue to gather momentum, with reports suggesting a liquid-metal hinge design could finally make its debut.
