Ahmedabad residents in several West Zone areas are likely to face water supply disruptions on August 18 and 19 as the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) carries out urgent repair work on a major water pipeline. The disruption is linked to a leakage in the 1,600-mm Western Trunk Main supplying water from the Kotarpur Water Works.
Why Is Water Supply Being Affected In Ahmedabad?
According to reports, a breach has developed in the 1,600-mm diameter Western Trunk Main near J.P.’s Chali in Sabarmati. The pipeline is an important part of the network carrying water from Kotarpur Water Works to several distribution stations in Ahmedabad’s West Zone.
AMC is undertaking leakage repair work to restore the pipeline and ensure normal functioning of the water distribution network.
Ahmedabad Water Cut On August 18
Water supply in the affected areas will be impacted on the evening of August 18. The evening water supply will not be provided from distribution stations that depend on the Kotarpur Western Trunk Main while the repair work is underway.
Residents have been advised to make arrangements for their water requirements in advance.
Water Supply Status On August 19
Water supply is also expected to remain affected on August 19. AMC has indicated that morning and evening water supply will depend on the quantity of water available after the repair work.
This means residents may experience reduced or delayed water supply rather than a complete shutdown throughout the day.
8 Ahmedabad Areas Affected By Water Cut
The affected areas in Ahmedabad’s West Zone include:
- Sabarmati
- Nava Wadaj
- Naranpura
- Stadium
- Navrangpura
- Paldi
- Vasna
These areas receive water through distribution stations dependent on the Western Trunk Main.
Note: Current reports list seven named areas, despite some headlines describing the disruption as affecting “five other areas” besides the three highlighted locations.
AMC Appeals To Residents To Store Water
The civic body has asked residents in the affected areas to store adequate water before the repair work begins. Citizens have also been urged to cooperate with AMC officials while the emergency pipeline repair is carried out.
When Will Normal Water Supply Resume?
Normal water supply is expected to be restored after the leakage repair and once sufficient water reserves are available. However, the exact timing may vary across areas depending on the availability of water at the distribution stations.
Residents in Sabarmati, Nava Wadaj, Naranpura, Stadium, Navrangpura, Paldi and Vasna should therefore keep sufficient water stored and plan accordingly for August 18 and 19.
