Alan Brazil, a 66-year-old TalkSPORT breakfast host and former football star for Scotland and Ipswich, said he’s lucky to be alive after a life-saving liver transplant. In Cambridge, no less. Alan explained on his radio show that he worked right up until the morning of his surgery, then went straight to the hospital. His operation happened later that same day and took about eight hours.

Alan’s heart even stopped briefly during the procedure, but the doctors got it going again. Despite still being in recovery, he was back at TalkSPORT just a few days later, ready to chat about his ordeal with his co-hosts. On Thursday, he made it clear he’s still recovering but is grateful to be doing okay.

The drive to go through with the transplant came after much thought and discussions with experts, along with strong backing from his family. Speaking about it all, Alan admitted how serious the surgery was, while giving lots of credit to his medical team. At one point, he thought he might not make it. But now he’s thankful, describing his outcome as very lucky and life-changing, in more ways than one.

Alan Brazil, a Scottish former pro footballer and sports broadcaster born in 1959, played as a striker for teams like Ipswich Town, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United. He also suited up for the Scotland national team. Since hanging up his boots, Alan hosts a talkSPORT radio show, appearing daily on the ‘Sports Breakfast.’ More recently, he opened up about his battle with a life-threatening liver transplant. During the surgery, doctors had to restart his heart! Amazingly, he bounced back and got back to doing what he loves—broadcasting.
