Cyberpunk 2077: Cognition Method is an upcoming first-person, atmospheric sci-fi puzzle game that’s visually inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s legendary classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. It promises unique, deep, and dramatic storytelling, and it’s led by a former environment artist on Cyberpunk 2077 at CD Projekt Red. Here’s everything you need to know about Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077: Cognition Method Announced for PC

Cognition Method, an upcoming first-person sci-fi puzzle game led by a former Cyberpunk 2077 environment artist, has officially been announced to release on PC on September 1, 2026. Developed by a three-person indie studio called Team Cognition, the project is spearheaded by Timur Ozdoev, who previously worked at CD Projekt Red.

Cyberpunk 2077: Key Game Details

Cyberpunk 2077: Narrative & Psychological Themes

The narrative shifts the traditional sci-fi premise into a deeply personal psychological journey:

  • The Martian Colony: Set in 2085, Earth is completely gone and the remnants of humanity survive on Mars. You play as William Mortwood, an astronaut from the Martian Academy.

  • The Silent Station: A remote space station abruptly stops transmitting after bringing a massive, unknown alien structure aboard. The entire crew has mysteriously vanished, including William’s son.

  • Philosophical Horror: Beyond the physical search, the plot touches heavily on the fear of human evolution, the boundaries of consciousness, and what part of William’s past refuses to let him go.

Cyberpunk 2077: Gameplay Mechanics & Puzzle Design

Instead of relying on traditional tools, your primary way of interacting with the environment is altering your orientation:

  • Gravity Wells: You can shift gravity dynamically, allowing you to walk on walls or ceilings to access areas that are otherwise entirely unreachable.

  • Portal-Style Logic: Puzzles feature physics-based mechanics where you must manipulate cubes and balls to activate switches, which drop energy fields to clear a path forward.

  • Impossible Geometry: The level design actively distorts real-world architecture. Rooms warp as you shift perspective, requiring you to think outside the traditional 3D box.

Cyberpunk 2077: Architectural Art Direction

Lead developer Timur Ozdoev is utilizing his background as a AAA environment artist to make each room look like an individual art piece:

  • Neo-Brutalism: The visuals focus on massive, clean structures built of concrete, illuminated by sharp angles of direct sunlight.

  • Photo Mode: The developers have integrated a free-flying photo mode directly into the experience. This allows virtual photographers to easily capture the stark, lonely aesthetic of the station.

Cyberpunk 2077: Minimum PC Requirements

According to the game’s official listing, you will need at least these specs to run the game:

  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4460 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200

  • Memory: 8 GB RAM

  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon RX 580

Cognition Method is shaping up to be a compelling addition to the first-person puzzle genre. It successfully blends the mind-bending gravity mechanics of Portal with a stark, neo-brutalist aesthetic heavily inspired by classic sci-fi cinema like 2001: A Space Odyssey.
