The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) temporarily closed several metro stations, including Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth, on Monday due to security reasons. The decision came amid heightened security arrangements in central Delhi ahead of a planned protest march towards Parliament. The stations were later reopened in phases, while normal metro services also resumed on the Violet Line after a brief technical issue.
DMRC later issued fresh updates confirming that restrictions were gradually lifted. The interchange facilities and entry gates at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat were reopened first. Shortly afterwards, Seva Teerth Metro Station was also reopened for passengers. Authorities are expected to issue further updates if any additional restrictions are required.

Apart from the temporary station closures, commuters also faced a brief disruption on the Violet Line. DMRC said train services towards Raja Nahar Singh were delayed between Govindpuri and Harkesh Nagar Okhla due to a technical issue. The metro corporation later confirmed that normal services had resumed on the Violet Line.
Why Has Security Been Increased In Delhi?
Security has been tightened across the national capital ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)’s “Chalo Sansad” march. The protest has been organised to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET UG paper leak and other examination related issues. Large numbers of security personnel, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), have been deployed near Parliament ahead of the protest and the ongoing Monsoon Session.
What Is The ‘Chalo Sansad’ March About?
Thousands of supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar to participate in the march towards Parliament. Activist Sonam Wangchuk has also supported the protest. Wangchuk, who was on an indefinite hunger strike, is currently admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after being shifted from the protest site following concerns over his health. Authorities intervened after a Delhi High Court order permitted medical action if his health condition deteriorated.
