The Central Government has announced a revision in passport application fees, with the new rates set to come into effect from July 1, 2026. The revised charges were notified by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) through the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, marking the first major revision in passport fees in over a decade.
The updated fee structure will apply to fresh passport applications, renewals, Tatkal services, replacement of lost or damaged passports, Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs), and certain other passport-related services.
New Passport Fees Effective From July 1
Applicants seeking a 36-page ordinary passport under the normal application scheme will now have to pay ₹2,500, up from the existing ₹1,500. Those opting for the Tatkal service for the same passport will pay ₹5,000, compared to the current fee of ₹3,500. For a 60-page passport, the normal application fee has been increased from ₹2,000 to ₹3,500, while the Tatkal fee has been revised from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000.

Other Services Also Become Costlier
The revised fee schedule also covers several other passport-related services, including:
- Passport renewal and reissue
- Replacement of lost or damaged passports
- Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
- Emergency Certificate and select travel documents
- Tatkal passport services
The applicable fee will depend on the type of service requested and the category of the passport application.
Who Will Be Affected?
The revised charges will apply to all passport applications submitted on or after July 1, 2026. Applications filed before that date will continue to be processed under the existing fee structure.
Passport Validity Remains the Same
The government has clarified that only the application fees have been revised. The validity of passports remains unchanged.
- Ordinary passports issued to adults will continue to be valid for 10 years.
- Existing validity rules for passports issued to minors also remain unchanged.
