Hartalika Teej 2026: Hartalika Teej 2026 is being celebrated on Monday, September 14, 2026. This highly auspicious festival falls on the Tritiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. In a rare and highly significant alignment, Hartalika Teej coincides with Ganesh Chaturthi this year. Devotees worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati to seek blessings for marital harmony, prosperity, and the long life of their partners.

Hartalika Teej 2026: Shubh Muhurat & Timings

While the Tritiya Tithi begins on the morning of September 13, the fast is traditionally observed on September 14 according to the Udaya Tithi (sunrise rule).

Hartalika Teej 2026: Dos (What to Follow)

  • Wake up early: Rise during the Brahma Muhurat (before sunrise), clean the house, and take a holy bath.

  • Take a Sankalp: Take a formal and honest pledge (Sankalp) before starting your fast.

  • Perform Solah Shringar: Dress up in traditional festive attire (preferably red or green) and adorn yourself with sixteen bridal items (Solah Shringar).

  • Make Clay Idols: Craft handmade idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha using clean sand or river mud.

  • Read the Vrat Katha: Ensure you listen to or read the Hartalika Teej Vrat Katha to complete the spiritual purpose of the fast.

  • Keep a Night Vigil: Participate in the night-long Jagran, singing bhajans and chanting Shiva-Parvati mantras.

Hartalika Teej 2026: Don’ts (What to Avoid)

  • Avoid Black Clothes: Strictly avoid black, dark grey, or cream-coloured outfits, as these are considered unfavorable for auspicious rituals.

  • Do Not Sleep During the Day/Night: Traditional rules dictate that devotees should not sleep during the fast or the night-long vigil (Jagran), as it is believed to break the continuity of the penance.

  • Avoid Anger and Conflict: Keep your mind peaceful. Do not argue, lie, or give in to negative emotions.

  • No Tamasic Food: Family members who are not fasting should also completely avoid alcohol, non-vegetarian food, and heavy garlic/onion dishes.

Hartalika Teej 2026: Fasting Rules & Rituals

  • Nirjala Vrat: The fast is traditionally observed as a Nirjala Vrat—meaning devotees abstain from both food and water for 24 hours.

  • Offerings to Deities: Offer Bel Patra, Dhatura, and fruits to Lord Shiva. Offer Suhag items (sindoor, bangles, bindi) to Goddess Parvati.

  • Breaking the Fast (Parana): The fast should be broken on the next morning (September 15) after performing the concluding morning puja. Start by consuming water, soaked black gram, or fresh cucumber before sitting down for an elaborate meal.

Hartalika Teej 2026: Things to Keep in Mind

While the fast is historically rigid, health should always be the priority. Expectant mothers, elderly women, or anyone with underlying medical issues should consult a physician and can opt for a milder fruit-and-water fast instead of a strict Nirjala fast.

If you are on your menstrual cycle, you can still observe the fast. However, you should maintain a respectful distance from the idols and have a family member perform the physical puja steps on your behalf.
