It’s International S;mores Day today! Celebrated on August 10 in the US every year, this fun occasion aims to celebrate the quintessial American dessert of s’mores which have been around since the 1920s. 

National S’mores Day 2026: Origin

Originally called “Some More” , this fun dessert traces its roots a century ago to the Girl Scouts, with troop leader Loretta Scott being credited for the first ever recipe.  Even today, it is often associated with camping culture in the US. 

While it’s not a holiday, National S’mores Day is an occasion that’s recognised by the National Confectioners Association.

National S’mores Day 2026: Meaning & Significance 

National S’mores Day is a celebration of the classic campfire treat made of a roasted marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two graham crackers. For many, s’mores are deeply tied to childhood memories of summer camps, backyard fire pits, and family road trips. It is associated heavily with Girl Scouts of the USA, who published the first official recipe for “Some Mores” in their 1927 handbook.

  1. Peanut Butter S’mores

Ingredients: Graham crackers, marshmallow, chocolate bar, and creamy peanut butter. 

Spread a thick layer of peanut butter onto one graham cracker. Add a warm, freshly roasted marshmallow and a chocolate square on top, then press together with the second cracker. 

  1. Classic S’mores

Ingredients: Graham crackers, marshmallow, and a milk chocolate bar. 

Place a chocolate square onto a graham cracker sheet. Toast a marshmallow over an open flame until golden brown, slide it onto the chocolate, and sandwich it with the top cracker. 

  1. Salted Caramel S’mores

Ingredients: Graham crackers, marshmallow, chocolate bar, salted caramel sauce 

Drizzle warm caramel sauce over a chocolate square resting on a graham cracker. Sprinkle a tiny pinch of sea salt, add your roasted marshmallow, and close the sandwich. 

  1. Strawberry S’mores

Ingredients: Graham crackers, marshmallow, dark or milk chocolate bar, and fresh strawberry slices. 

Lay thin slices of fresh strawberry directly onto the chocolate piece on your graham cracker. Cap it with a hot, gooey marshmallow and the second cracker for a sweet, fruity crunch. 

  1. Chocolate Chip Cookie S’mores

Ingredients: Two chocolate chip cookies, marshmallow, and an optional extra chocolate square. 

Swap out the traditional graham crackers entirely for two chocolate chip cookies. Roast your marshmallow until meltingly soft and sandwich it directly between the two cookies.
