Noida Fire: Two people were killed after a massive fire allegedly triggered during the charging of an electric scooter battery spread through a G+4 building in Noida’s Mamura area on Wednesday. The building, located in Sector 66 under the Phase-3 police station limits, was being used as a paying guest accommodation and housed around 50 families.
Noida Fire in Mamura Claims Two Lives
According to preliminary findings, a battery being charged reportedly developed a short circuit, causing a spark that ignited nearby vehicles parked on the ground floor. The flames quickly spread, while thick smoke travelled to the upper floors, trapping residents inside the building.

Noida Fire Started During EV Charging
Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Joint Commissioner Rajeev Narain said the fire appears to have originated while an electric vehicle was being charged.
“According to the preliminary findings, the fire appears to have started while an electric vehicle was being charged. A spark is believed to have ignited the fire, which then spread to nearby petrol vehicles, leading to the incident,” Narain said.
Officials stated that the building had parking facilities on the ground floor rather than in a basement, allowing smoke to rapidly spread upwards and affect residents on the upper floors.
Noida Fire: Around 50 Families Evacuated
Fire department teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the blaze. Seven fire tenders, hydraulic platforms, and rescue vehicles were deployed for firefighting and evacuation operations. According to PTI, firefighters successfully rescued all occupants and brought the fire under control after extensive operations.
“Around 50 families were safely evacuated. However, two people suffered serious health complications due to smoke inhalation and were shifted to the district hospital,” Narain said. Officials later confirmed that both victims succumbed to their injuries.
Noida Fire: Building Owner and Leaseholder Detained
Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections at the Phase-3 Police Station. The building owner and the leaseholder have been taken into custody for questioning. Investigators are examining whether negligence or violations of fire safety norms contributed to the tragedy. Narain said each floor accommodated around five families and contained nearly 12 two-room flats.
Yogi Adityanath Orders Immediate Action
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the incident and directed senior officials to reach the site immediately and supervise relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister also instructed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured, continuously monitor the situation, and provide all necessary assistance to those affected.
Noida Fire: Investigation Underway
Police and fire department officials are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of the fire. While preliminary findings point to a spark generated during electric scooter battery charging, authorities are also reviewing fire safety compliance and building management practices. The incident has once again raised concerns over electric vehicle battery charging safety in residential and mixed-use buildings.
