Super El Niño 2026 Forecast:  A new El Niño climate event could begin within weeks, raising concerns about higher global temperatures and more extreme weather around the world. The warning comes from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which says the natural weather phenomenon is developing as the planet continues to experience the effects of climate change.

The United Nations (UN) has issued an urgent warning that the world faces an imminent surge in global temperatures, stating there is a 75% chance that average temperatures between 2026 and 2030 will surpass the critical 1.5°C threshold above pre-industrial levels.

As there is an 80-percent possibility that El Nino phenomenon developing between June and August which may increase the risk of extreme weather events, the World Meteorological Organization said Tuesday. Scientists believe that the combination of El Niño and rising global temperatures could lead to stronger heatwaves, droughts, floods, storms, and other climate-related disasters over the coming months.

According to the World Meteorological Organization, there is an 80% probability that El Niño conditions will develop between June and August. The agency also estimates a 90% chance that the event will continue through at least November. The latest forecast is one of the strongest indications so far that El Niño will return this year. Scientists are closely monitoring sea temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, as some climate models suggest the event could become particularly strong.

While forecasting remains challenging, some climate models suggest that ocean temperatures could rise significantly above average. A strong El Niño is generally defined by sea surface temperatures in the eastern Pacific reaching at least 1.5 degrees Celsius above normal levels. If this occurs, weather disruptions could become more severe and widespread than during a typical El Niño year. Scientists say climate change is amplifying the effects of El Niño. Global temperatures have already risen by about 1.3 degrees Celsius since pre-industrial times due to greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, when El Niño develops, its impact occurs on top of an already warmer climate.
