Why the Banyan Tree is Worshipped
The banyan tree, known as the Vat tree, holds great religious importance in Hinduism. It is believed that Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and Goddess Savitri reside in this sacred tree. According to spiritual stories, Lord Krishna is also linked with the banyan leaf during cosmic dissolution.
Due to its long lifespan, the banyan tree symbolizes strength, stability, and longevity. Poet Tulsidas described it as the “umbrella of pilgrimage.” Beyond its spiritual value, it is also important for environmental balance and conservation.
