Weather Today, 11 May 2026: India’s weather pattern on May 11, 2026, is showing two completely different extremes at the same time while western states including Rajasthan and Gujarat continue battling severe heatwave conditions with temperatures crossing 45°C, northern hill regions are preparing for rainfall, hailstorms and even isolated snowfall activity in higher reaches. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several states are likely to witness thunderstorms, gusty winds and sudden weather fluctuations this week.

The sharp contrast highlights how rapidly seasonal transitions are intensifying across the country and IMD data shows Barmer in Rajasthan recorded one of the highest temperatures in India at 45.7°C, while Srinagar remained as cool as 18°C during daytime hours. Meteorologists say the interaction between western disturbances and strong dry winds from northwest India is creating unstable atmospheric conditions.

Will it Rain or Snow in the Hills?

Yes, several hill states are expected to receive rainfall, hailstorms and isolated snowfall activity in upper regions over the next 48 hours. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are under weather alerts due to incoming western disturbances while gusty winds between 40 to 60 kmph may also accompany thunderstorms in many districts. Higher altitude areas could witness fresh snowfall, especially during late-night and early-morning hours.

Minimum: 10°C | Maximum: 18°C in Srinagar today.

Why Is The Heat Building Up So Fast Across India?

Meteorologists say multiple factors are contributing to the rapid rise in temperatures:

  • Dry northwesterly winds are intensifying heat across Rajasthan and Gujarat.
  • Cloud-free skies are increasing direct solar heating.
  • Delayed pre-monsoon rainfall has reduced cooling activity.
  • Urban heat island effects are worsening temperatures in metro cities.
  • Global climate shifts continue pushing seasonal temperatures above normal averages.

According to IMD statistics, several cities are currently recording temperatures 3°C to 5°C above seasonal averages.
