Weather Today, 25 April 2026: India’s weather this week reflects a country split in two where as large parts of north and central India are battling intense heat with temperatures pushing beyond 45°C in pockets while eastern and northeastern regions brace for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

According to the India Meteorological Department, this contrast is being driven by a mix of dry continental winds, weak western disturbances and active moisture systems in the east. The result is a volatile pattern where heatwaves and storm alerts are unfolding simultaneously.

Will it Rain or Snow in the Hills?

In the northern hills, especially around Srinagar, conditions remain relatively cool with Minimum temperature 7°C and Maximum temperature 14°C. Light rain is expected in parts of the Kashmir Valley, while higher altitudes could see fresh snowfall. These conditions are linked to a weak western disturbance moving across the Himalayan belt, bringing temporary relief from dry weather.

Why Is The Heat Building Up So Fast Across India?

The rapid rise in temperatures is not random and several factors are working together:

  • Persistent dry westerly winds are heating up the plains
  • Lack of cloud cover is allowing direct solar radiation
  • Delayed pre-monsoon activity is limiting moisture
  • Urban heat island effects are intensifying city temperatures

In regions like Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, these factors have pushed daytime highs well above seasonal averages.

Where are the Heat Wave Alerts?

  • Western and eastern Uttar Pradesh
  • Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas
  • Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh
  • Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh
  • Punjab and Haryana

Temperatures in these regions are consistently hovering between 42°C and 47°C, placing them under heatwave warnings.
