India Weather Today: India’s weather map has split into two extremes while Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh continue to reel under punishing heatwave conditions, several southern and northeastern states are battling heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and flood-like situations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that temperatures across parts of northwest and central India may remain dangerously high for the next four to five days before any major relief arrives.

On Tuesday, the contrast became even sharper. Delhi is inching toward 47°C, while Kerala and Assam continue receiving intense rain bands aross the country, weather conditions are becoming more volatile, pushing health systems, infrastructure and daily life under pressure.

Why Is The Heat Building Up So Fast Across India?

A prolonged dry spell, delayed western disturbances and rising land surface temperatures have accelerated heatwave conditions across north and central India. Weather experts say warm night temperatures are worsening the crisis because cities are not cooling down after sunset.

Delhi, Haryana and Punjab recorded minimum temperatures over 5°C above normal while in Sirsa, Haryana, the mercury touched 46.2°C, making it one of the hottest places in India.
