Weather Today, 29 April 2026: India is witnessing a sharp weather contrast on April 29, 2026. Northern, western and central regions continue to battle rising heat while eastern states and hill regions may see thunderstorms, rain and isolated snowfall as several cities are expected to cross 40°C, while parts of the Himalayas could remain below 10°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has flagged heatwave-like conditions in multiple belts with pre-monsoon activity offering relief in selected regions.

Will it Rain or Snow in the Hills?

Yes. Higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh may witness light snowfall or mixed precipitation due to a western disturbance. Mid-hill regions could receive scattered rain and gusty winds, especially later in the day.

Why Is The Heat Building Up So Fast Across India?

The fast temperature rise is being linked to:

  • Dry continental winds
  • Delayed widespread pre-monsoon showers
  • Clear skies increasing daytime heating
  • Urban heat island effect in metros
  • Seasonal April-May warming trend

Some areas have already touched 46°C+ nationally this week.

Where are the Heat Wave Alerts?

  • Delhi-NCR
  • Rajasthan
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Gujarat
  • Madhya Pradesh
  • Haryana
  • Punjab (isolated pockets)
  • Vidarbha and central India belts
