WhatsApp users in India and several other countries have reported problems with the messaging platform, with many unable to send or receive photos, videos, stickers, GIFs and other media files. Outage-tracking platform Downdetector recorded a surge in user reports early Monday morning. The disruption appears to be primarily affecting WhatsApp’s multimedia services, while some users have said that basic text messaging continues to work.
What Is The WhatsApp Outage Affecting?
Users have reported difficulties uploading, sending and downloading media files on WhatsApp. Photos, videos, voice notes, stickers and GIFs are reportedly getting stuck during the upload or sending process. The outage has been reported in several countries, including India, the UK, France, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Spain and Colombia.
Some users have also reported seeing account-review or temporary account-lock messages, although it is not immediately clear whether these issues are directly connected to the wider outage.
Is WhatsApp Working Right Now?
WhatsApp’s core text messaging service appears to be working for at least some users, but multimedia functions remain disrupted for those affected. Users facing the outage can try sending text messages while waiting for the service to return to normal. There is generally no need to uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp for a server-side outage.
What Should WhatsApp Users Do During The Outage?
Users who need to share important files can temporarily use another messaging platform, email or SMS until WhatsApp’s media-sharing services are restored. Those experiencing problems should also avoid repeatedly reinstalling the application, as this is unlikely to resolve an outage originating from WhatsApp’s servers.
