UFO Documents to be Released: FBI Director Kash Patel has said that government records linked to unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), commonly referred to as UFOs, will soon be made public. He made the remarks during a wide-ranging interview while also defending reforms inside the bureau under the Trump administration.
He said the government is actively working on releasing long-classified materials as part of a broader transparency push involving federal agencies.
“They’re going to be publicly releasing this information very soon. We are all for it,” Patel said.
Why Trump Pushes UFO File Declassification?
Patel linked the development to a larger declassification effort initiated under a Trump executive order aimed at releasing records on UFOs and possible extraterrestrial life. He said multiple agencies are now involved in preparing documents for public access.
“[Trump] stood up an interagency process with the Department of War leading that effort to get out the documentation,” he said.
While earlier statements have suggested similar disclosures, no major new UFO records have been released so far.
Kash Patel Says Documents Will Be Released ‘Very Soon’
Reiterating the timeline, Patel indicated that the release of UFO-related material is approaching, though he did not provide a specific date or outline the scope of the documents. He said the administration is committed to making information public after internal review and coordination between agencies.
Patel also spoke about the growing use of artificial intelligence in law enforcement, saying the FBI has adopted the technology to improve threat detection and response.
“AI was never used at the FBI until we got there,” he said. “I’m using it everywhere…We stopped a school massacre in North Carolina because we got a tip, and we were able to triage it with artificial intelligence.”
He claimed AI systems are now helping the bureau respond faster to potential threats.
Burn Bag Discovery Reignites Russiagate Debate
Patel also described internal discoveries within FBI headquarters, including what he said were “burn bags” linked to past classified document handling practices.
“It’s basically a large paper bag that you use to destroy and literally shred and burn classified information,” he said. “So we not only found burn bags in a room that was locked away in FBI headquarters…the room was also off the map. It wasn’t on our blueprint.”
The remarks relate to the FBI’s investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election, a probe that has long been politically disputed.
Pressure Mounts Amid Reports of Possible Dismissal
Patel’s comments come as reports suggest internal discussions about his future within the administration. Some officials have reportedly raised concerns about the controversy surrounding his tenure.
“It’s only a matter of time,” an unnamed White House official told Politico, while referring to speculation about his position.
His leadership has faced scrutiny over several issues, including allegations related to conduct and internal management, which he and the bureau have denied.
Patel Defends Leadership and Denies Allegations
Patel has strongly rejected allegations made against him, calling them unfounded and politically motivated. He has also defended his work inside the bureau, saying reforms are focused on rebuilding trust and efficiency.
“Under President Trump and Director Patel’s leadership at the FBI, crime across the country has plummeted to the lowest level in more than 100 years, and many high-profile criminals have been put behind bars,” a White House spokesperson said.
He added that Patel remains focused on strengthening the agency and modernising its operations.
