He posted the details of the incident on his Instagram handle, stating that the couple was detained for almost 38 hours while traveling through South Korea and China.

He stated that they arrived in the country excited, but the circumstances changed in a matter of hours. “We landed in Jeju Island, South Korea excited and ready for our trip. Within a few hours, everything changed," he posted.
Awasthi alleged that South Korean authorities denied them entry without a clear reason and moved them to a holding area. Awasthi described the area as a place of confinement. “It was similar to a jail with no sunlight & no access to outside," he posted.

Sachin Awasthi also alleged that the couple was forced to buy an expensive return ticket. He said that they were forced to agree to the terms, as they were not given any clear options or explanations. Awasthi also said that the cost of the ticket was almost ten times higher than usual.

Awasthi also alleged that during their transit in China, the treatment became even harsher. He said that they were not allowed to use their phones freely and were provided very little food and water.
Describing the experience, he wrote, “No use of phone and no food and limited water. Sleeping conditions were worst. Even the use of restrooms was monitored with a police official who had a bodycam and went to the washroom with us (sic)."

Awasthi further explained that when the officials told them that they would be sent back, he and his wife were already emotionally drained. However, they decided to pay for the return tickets despite the high cost because they wanted to be safe and get out of the situation as soon as possible.
