New Delhi: Once again, a Congress leader did not hesitate to criticize the government over the actions taken against Pakistan. After Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah commented that he was not in favour of war with Pakistan, yet another senior Congress leader has stirred controversy with remarks on the terror attacks. Senior Maharashtra Congress MLA Vijay Waddetiwar, on Monday, questioned the victims’ account that terrorists asked their religion before opening fire.
The Congress MLA said, “The government should take responsibility for the Pahalgam terrorist attack. They claim that terrorists questioned people about their religion before killing them. Do terrorists really have the time to do all this? Some people believe that this did not occur. Terrorists have neither caste nor religion. Those responsible should be identified, and appropriate action should be taken. This reflects the true sentiment of the nation.”
Further reacting to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s comment against war following the Pahalgam attack, Waddetiwar remarked that if the government was prepared for war, then it should go ahead with it.
Speaking to the media, Waddetiwar said, “All these issues are being raised to divert the public’s attention. CM Siddaramaiah stated there should not be a war with Pakistan, but if the government is ready for it, then they should proceed. The government talks about stopping Pakistan’s water supply; however, it would take 20 years to achieve that.”
Meanwhile, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah had advocated for strengthening security in Kashmir to maintain peace in the region. “There was a security lapse in this incident. We do not support war. Measures should be undertaken to enhance security in Kashmir. The central government must bolster security to ensure peace prevails in the region,” Siddaramaiah told reporters.
Siddaramaiah’s statements triggered sharp criticism from the BJP, with party MP Sambit Patra accusing Congress of speaking in Pakistan’s language.
“Congress should expel Siddaramaiah and Timmapur. However, Congress will not do that because this is the true face of the party,” he asserted.
He further added that Rahul Gandhi had earlier demanded proof of the surgical strikes. Today, statements made by Rahul Gandhi, Siddaramaiah, and Timmapur are being aired on Pakistani television, as Pakistan views them as their sympathisers,” Patra said.
The Pahalgam attack stands as one of the deadliest assaults in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama attack, where 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives. In response to the Pahalgam terror strike, India has adopted strong measures against Pakistan for its continued support of cross-border terrorism.
