NEW DELHI: In a brave and selfless act, Sub-Inspector Sanjeev and Constable Rahul Nain, both unarmed, pursued and apprehended two armed snatchers who had attempted to escape after committing a chain-snatching incident in the Shahdara area of East Delhi. The duo showed remarkable courage even as the suspects were preparing to open fire while fleeing.

Additionally, a local resident, Shiva Thakur, displayed commendable courage by chasing after the fleeing snatchers and alerting traffic personnel stationed at Chetak Complex in Shahdara about the unfolding situation.

The incident took place on Monday, when Thakur informed SI Sanjeev and Constable Nain, who were on duty at Chintamani Chowk. Upon receiving the information, the officers signaled the suspects to stop. However, when the culprits tried to escape, the two officers displayed exceptional bravery and managed to apprehend them, according to Monika Bhardwaj, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic Zone 1).

She further stated that the snatchers, later identified as Imran (26) and Warees (35), attempted to fire at the unarmed police personnel, but were quickly overpowered before they could discharge their weapons.

The Additional DCP highlighted that SI Sanjeev had earlier been recognized for his outstanding bravery on multiple occasions, further underlining his consistent dedication and courage in the line of duty.

After apprehending the two armed snatchers, police recovered key evidence from the scene, including a motorcycle used in the crime and two loaded pistols, highlighting the danger faced by the unarmed officers. Three stolen gold chains were also retrieved, offering potential relief to the victims.
Preliminary investigation revealed that one accused, Warees, has a criminal record with 36 prior cases, indicating a history of repeated offenses. Authorities are reviewing his background for links to other crimes. Meanwhile, the background of the second accused, Imran, is still being verified to determine any past criminal involvement.
