Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Vijender Gupta, made a significant announcement today stating that the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly, scheduled for July, will be conducted in a completely paperless format. This transition will be facilitated through the adoption of advanced software and mobile applications developed under the National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA) initiative.
Gupta was on an official visit to the Odisha Legislative Assembly, accompanied by Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and other members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly delegation. During their visit, Vijender Gupta and Bisht thoroughly examined the various software tools, gadgets, and mobile apps that are currently being developed and utilized under the NEVA project. They expressed their gratitude to Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi for the warm reception extended to the Delhi delegation and for sharing in-depth insights about the NEVA project’s implementation in Odisha.
“Odisha is one of the newest members of the NEVA ecosystem, and the technological infrastructure established here is both modern and highly effective,” Gupta stated. “By learning from the experiences of other states, Odisha has managed to build an impressive model. We aim to carefully study their strategies and adapt suitable practices to refine our own implementation in Delhi.”
The delegation from Delhi had the opportunity to review several components of the NEVA initiative, including digital apps, dashboards, and war rooms, allowing them to gain valuable hands-on experience and insight into how digital technology can enhance legislative efficiency and ensure greater transparency. The team also toured service centers to observe the practical usage of digital solutions in facilitating seamless legislative functions.
Speaker Gupta emphasized that the Delhi Assembly will consider incorporating aspects of Odisha’s NEVA model based on relevance and necessity. He also mentioned plans to invite Odisha’s technical experts to Delhi to share their expertise and guide the digital transformation process. “Our objective is to establish the Delhi Legislative Assembly as a frontrunner in the field of technological advancement, creating a benchmark for other states to follow,” Gupta affirmed.
Reiterating his support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘One Nation, One Application’ mission, Gupta underlined the Delhi Assembly’s dedication to being a leader in this national digital initiative. He stressed that the adoption of the e-Vidhan system will not only boost operational productivity but also contribute significantly to environmental conservation. The move will usher in enhanced speed, efficiency, and transparency in the functioning of the legislature.
The official visit concluded with Speaker Vijender Gupta and his delegation visiting the revered Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. Describing the experience as profoundly spiritual and calming, Gupta shared his admiration for the sanctity and energy of the temple. He was joined on this visit by his wife, Shobha Vijender.
