Chandigarh: Following the unnerving terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam recently, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has convened a top-level meeting this morning to review and tighten the state’s security. The meeting was held at his official residence in Chandigarh and featured senior officials from the Punjab Police, vigilance wing, and civil administration.
Addressing after the meeting, Chief Minister Mann condemned the unarmed civilian killings in the Pahalgam incident, saying, “The manner in which unarmed individuals are being killed is absolutely unacceptable. We are a state sharing a border with Pakistan, and Punjab intercepts drones and weapons every day that are being transported from the other side. We are on guard every day.”
He further said, “Today, I met with top officials of vigilance, security, and other departments. We are completely ready to face any situation.”
Reiterating the increased threat perception owing to Punjab’s geographical location close to Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister said the state government is in constant coordination with law enforcement agencies and central security forces to keep a watch on developments and respond immediately to any threat.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav also addressed the media, stating, “Immediately after yesterday’s attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister gave instructions, and we have put the whole state on high alert. Intensive checking is being done in Punjab through checkpoints, and we are keeping close touch with Jammu and Kashmir Police and national security agencies.”
The state government intensified border surveillance and preventive steps due to the growing threat of cross-border infiltration and drone-based arms smuggling. The conclave dwelled on simplifying intelligence-sharing processes, upgradation of security infrastructure, and ensuring high-level coordination between state and central agencies.
