In a significant move toward modernizing Uttar Pradesh’s urban infrastructure, the Yogi government has introduced a Geographical Information System (GIS)-based master plan to develop 59 cities using state-of-the-art technology and advanced infrastructure.
This ambitious initiative is designed to streamline urban expansion and strengthen the core infrastructure of multiple cities across the state. As part of this master plan, modernization proposals for 35 cities have already received approval, while the remaining cities are expected to be cleared soon.
Among the selected cities are Ayodhya, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Meerut, Mathura, Azamgarh, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Ghazipur, Ramnagar, Moradabad, Firozabad, Shahjahanpur, and Muzaffarnagar, among others. The initiative places special emphasis on leveraging technological advancements and improving infrastructure to facilitate sustainable urban development.
The Yogi government plans to make these cities more scientific and data-driven through the application of GIS technology. This system will be instrumental in creating well-planned urban spaces by prioritizing road networks, drainage systems, green areas, traffic management, public amenities, and environmental sustainability. The objective is to curb unregulated urban expansion while ensuring strategic and well-organized infrastructural growth.
As part of this master plan, the integration of cutting-edge technology will transform these cities into smart urban centers. Sophisticated traffic management systems will be implemented to address congestion, while modern drainage infrastructure will be developed to mitigate waterlogging issues during monsoons. Public transport services, including buses and metro networks, will be enhanced for greater efficiency and commuter convenience. Furthermore, green belts will be established, and large-scale tree plantations will be carried out to promote ecological balance.
Beyond infrastructural improvements, this initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities. Large-scale construction projects, the development of smart infrastructure, and technology-driven services will create both direct and indirect job prospects for thousands of individuals.
The GIS-based approach will also introduce greater transparency in urban planning, allowing authorities to efficiently oversee projects and make necessary adjustments. By leveraging precise data on city development, the government will be able to implement more effective policies, ensuring long-term and sustainable urban growth across Uttar Pradesh.
