New Delhi: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has remained committed to supporting families who have lost their primary earners. Over the past eight years, the administration has allocated over ₹2,310 crore to this initiative, benefiting approximately 8 lakh families. Through the National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS), financially weaker families across the state receive a financial aid of ₹30,000 to help them cope with their economic challenges.
In alignment with the Central Government’s public welfare initiatives, the Yogi administration remains committed to ensuring the well-being of every section of society. The NFBS has become a crucial support system for families facing financial distress, extending its benefits to both rural and urban households.
To guarantee timely assistance to those in need, the Social Welfare Department has simplified the application and verification process. Under this scheme, the deceased family head must have been between 18 and 60 years old at the time of passing, and the family’s annual income should not exceed ₹46,080 in rural areas and ₹56,460 in urban regions.
Moreover, the application for assistance must be submitted within one year of the death. Once the request is approved, the financial aid is directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) within 30 days.
Recognizing the need for efficiency, the Yogi government introduced an online application, approval, and fund disbursement system on August 1, 2023. This digital transformation has significantly accelerated the implementation of the scheme, ensuring swift financial relief. According to the Social Welfare Department, the government has disbursed ₹2,310.837 crore to 770,279 families over the past eight years, reinforcing its dedication to social security.
The primary objective of this initiative is to prevent economic distress among underprivileged families after losing their primary earning member. The demise of a household’s head often leads to financial instability, making it difficult to manage daily expenses. In such situations, the National Family Benefit Scheme plays a vital role by providing immediate financial assistance, helping affected families regain stability and rebuild their lives.
With a proactive approach to social welfare, the Yogi government has positioned itself as a protector of the underprivileged, ensuring that no family is left struggling due to financial hardships. The administration remains focused on expanding the reach of welfare schemes, further strengthening the social security framework for the people of Uttar Pradesh.
