Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev recently won the Dubai Tennis Championships 2026 title, but the celebrations were short-lived as rising tensions in the Middle East created unexpected travel chaos for players.
Following the tournament, several tennis players, including Medvedev, were stranded in Dubai after airspace disruptions caused by the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran forced authorities to shut down flights due to security concerns.
However, there is now relief for fans. Medvedev has safely made his way to the United States to compete at the Indian Wells Open 2026, where he will be hoping to finally end his runner-up streak at the tournament and claim his first title there.
Not the way he would have wanted to win it 🙏

The Russian was recently spotted practicing on court with compatriot Karen Khachanov, who was also stuck in Dubai along with Andrey Rublev and several other players.
The tennis stars eventually managed to leave Dubai via Oman on Tuesday. From there, they took a flight through Turkey before finally arriving in Los Angeles.
Daniil Medvedev Explains his Journey From Dubai To Los Angeles Amid War
The dramatic journey left a strong impression on Medvedev who felt like he is in a movie. “We arrived in Oman by car,” Daniil told the Russian media Bolshe.
“Someone was lucky to get there in 4 hours 30 minutes. Some drove for 9 hours, we drove for 7 hours. Our driver could not find the passport. We were the only ones to cross the border.”
“Turned around and came back to the UAE. He found his passport in the Parking lot and drove for Oman. Stayed there for a night. The next day we left for Istanbul, spent the night in the hotel and flew to Los Angeles.”
“You feel like you’re in a Hollywood movie,” said Medvedev. “Crossing the border with other people, reaching Oman for the first time,” he added.
The travel disruptions affected not only these players but the broader sporting community as tensions in the Middle East escalated with missile and drone strikes across the region. Despite the difficulties, the ATP confirmed that the majority of players who participated in the Dubai tournament have now safely departed the country.
The 2026 Indian Wells Open, the season’s first ATP Masters 1000 event, is taking place from March 4 to March 15 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California.
Medvedev is scheduled to face Alejandro Tabilo in the first round on March 8 as he begins his campaign.
