The former MI6 chief reportedly passed away in Boston in the early hours of Tuesday after being diagnosed with the disease in 2025 and his death marks the loss of one of Britain’s most respected intelligence leaders, whose career in national security spanned nearly three decades.

Sir Alex started at MI6 in 1991 after being a Scots Guards officer and working in Afghanistan and during his career, which lasted nearly 29 years, he had roles all over Europe, the Middle East, the Balkans and Afghanistan.

He became really respected because of his operational experience while prior to leading MI6, he worked as the head of counter-terrorism in 2009. That time was already intense due to the 2005 London bombings and getting ready for the 2012 Olympic Games.
