Salad and Go, the once-fast-growing drive-thru salad chain founded in Gilbert, Arizona, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and permanently closed all of its remaining 70 locations, bringing a 13-year run to an abrupt end.
The Phoenix-based company filed voluntary petitions in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division, with final service across all locations concluding on Wednesday, 5th August, according to Arizona-based media outlets.
Chief executive Mike Tattersfield said the closure marked a difficult moment for everyone connected to the brand. “This is a painful day for everyone who built, worked for and loved Salad and Go,” Tattersfield said in a statement, adding, “Our mission was brought to life every day by an extraordinary team and embraced by guests who made us part of their routines. We are proud of what we built together and grateful to every team member, guest and partner who believed in it.”

In an official statement, the company said it had ultimately been unable to overcome sustained pressure on consumer demand, past strategic growth challenges and rising costs. The company added that a cyclospora outbreak in July, in which Salad and Go was not implicated, had weakened confidence across the wider food industry and compounded its existing difficulties. Technomic data cited by Nation’s Restaurant News showed the chain’s average unit volumes had fallen by more than 11 per cent between 2022 and 2025.

The bankruptcy filing capped a lengthy period of retreat rather than a sudden reversal. Salad and Go had already closed all of its locations in Texas and Oklahoma in January, and in September 2025 shut more than 40 stores across the country. By the end of 2025 the chain had been reduced to just 70 locations across Arizona and Nevada, representing a 52.1 per cent year-on-year retrenchment.
Tattersfield had previously signalled a more cautious approach to expansion following the earlier cutbacks. “I told Texas we’ll be back, but we’ve got to get back with strength and be deliberate about how we grow and where,” he said in March, adding that the brand remained a good idea that would require discipline to scale properly.

Founded in Gilbert in 2013, the chain had served more than 60 million meals across its 70 drive-thru locations over its 13-year history, known for its bright orange salad bowls, wraps and lemonade. The chain’s original founders, who now operate the Angie’s restaurant brand, posted on Instagram that the closure was “heartbreaking,” recalling that they had started Salad and Go with the belief that great-tasting, good-for-you food should be affordable for everyone.
Officials described the Chapter 11 process as providing a court-supervised framework for the company to realise the value of its assets and meet its obligations in an orderly manner. With every remaining location now shuttered, the closure marks the definitive end for a chain that, at its peak, had expanded well beyond its Arizona roots before contracting sharply over the past year.
