Beech Grove police officer Brian Elliott was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance near Indianapolis, as the suspect remains at large and another officer recovers from injuries.

Beech Grove Shooting: Brian Elliott has been named as the Beech Grove police officer who was shot and killed near Indianapolis on Monday. According to WISH-TV, the 33-year-old officer was responding to a disturbance call at an apartment complex when the shooting occurred. Another police officer was also injured in the incident. The suspect involved in the shooting, Kenneth Terrell Johnson, remains on the run.
Brian Elliott was a two-year officer with the Beech Grove Police Department and a graduate of Beech Grove High School. He was 33 years old at the time of his death.
At around 6:05 p.m. on Monday, Officer Elliott and other officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of Diplomat Court. The location is near Emerson and Hornet avenues, close to Beech Grove High School.
During the response, the suspect opened fire, shooting Officer Elliott and another officer before fleeing the area. Both officers were taken to Eskenazi Hospital for emergency treatment. Officer Elliott later died from his injuries. The second officer is reported to be in stable condition and is expected to survive.
In a Facebook post, Beech Grove Police Chief Michael Maurice confirmed the loss of the officer. “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that today we lost one of our very own, Officer Brian Elliott.”
He also expressed condolences to Elliott’s family, writing, “My heart goes out to Brian’s wife, Erin, his parents, and all of his family, friends, and loved ones. At this time, I am asking that we lean on one another to get through this.”
Chief Maurice added, “We are grateful to the team at Eskenazi Hospital, and our law enforcement and community partners for their extraordinary response and support.”
The suspect has been identified as Kenneth Johnson, a 47-year-old man. Police described him as a 6-foot-tall Black male weighing about 165 pounds with a slender build.
Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said the suspect was last seen northwest of Beech Grove High School wearing a blue hoodie with either a hood or something covering his head.
Authorities continue to search for the suspect and have urged the public to report any information that could help locate him.
